A Life of Perseverance

From a humble family in Adoni with no legacy of education or wealth, to one of the highest ranks at India's premier coal mining company — this is a story of grit, determination, and unwavering spirit.

27 July, 1965

Born in Adoni

Born to Late Shri Ganji Achanna, a cloth merchant, and Late Smt. Ganji Nagamma, a homemaker, in Adoni, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh. The 5th of 6 children — Saraswathi, Lokanna, Padma, Krishnaveni, Krishna Murthy, and Shanta Murthy. From his parents he inherited hard work, integrity and perseverance — the values that became the foundation of everything that followed.

1979 – 1982

The Foundation Years

Studied at Ramakrishna Matam School and later at TG High School, Adoni — completing SSC in 1979–80 and Intermediate in 1980–82, both at Adoni. Even in those early years, his dedication to academics stood out — the first in his family to pursue education with such commitment.

1983 – 1987

B.E. Mechanical Engineering

Earned his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Vasavi College of Engineering, Hyderabad, under Osmania University. A monumental achievement for a first-generation learner from a humble family in Adoni.

1989

The Career Begins

After a brief stint at Alwin Freezers, Hyderabad (4 months), joined Singareni Collieries Company Limited on 9th August 1989 as a Junior Engineer Trainee. The beginning of a 37-year legacy.

26 May, 1991

Marriage

Married Smt. Chiluveri Maha Lakshmi from Gadwal — daughter of Shri Chiluveri Gangaram and Smt. Janaki Amma. She is the 9th of 11 children (Prakash, Vijaya Lakshmi, Sreeman, Vishwanath, Venkatramana, Pandu, Padma, Gopal Krishna, Maha Lakshmi, Nirmala, and Suverna). A partnership of love, strength, and shared values that has stood strong for over 35 years.

2013

Certified Energy Manager & Energy Auditor

Qualified as both a Certified Energy Manager and a Certified Energy Auditor from the National Productivity Council, Hyderabad, under the seal of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India — a credential he would later turn into crores of savings for SCCL.

1989 – 2025

Rise Through the Ranks

Through sheer dedication and technical excellence, rose from Junior Engineer Trainee to Additional General Manager (E&M) — the highest possible grade — earning 7 promotions across 37 years, and finally serving as Area Engineer (E&M), Bellampalli Area.

The Beginning

Postings & Contributions

Ten postings across nine areas of SCCL — from a coke plant in Srirampur to the Area Engineer's chair in Bellampalli. Every one of them was left better than he found it.

01

Coal Chemical Complex (CCC)

Srirampur Area · Shift In-Charge, Operations

8 Years

His first posting after joining as JET on 9th August 1989 — a chemical plant producing coke from coal, later closed and converted into Singareni Polytechnic. Eight formative years on the shop floor, running shifts and learning the machinery inside out.

02

RK-6 Underground Mine

Ramakrishnapur Area (later merged into Srirampur Area)

6 Years

Played a vital role in dewatering the entire drowned and developed 4 Seam and 5 Seam for depillaring, by drilling a number of inter-seam boreholes — reclaiming reserves that had been written off as unreachable.

03

Area Workshop, Yellandu

Yellandu Area

4 Years

Carried out the Koyagudem OCP Coal Handling Plant installations — commissioning the infrastructure that moves thousands of tonnes of coal every single day.

04

KK-1 Underground Mine

Mandamarri Area, Bellampalli Region

5 Years

The key person behind KK-1 achieving the highest SDL production across all SCCL underground mines for three consecutive years. Also played a vital role in winning First Prize for UG Face Machinery among all SCCL UG mines in the Annual Safety Week Inspections.

05

Group Engineer, KTK-1 Group of Mines

Bhupalpalli Area

5 Years

Led the largest SDL group in SCCL — 30 SDLs across the KTK-1 group of mines. Secured the long-pending DGMS approvals for the entire HT electrical apparatus in KTK-1 and KTK-2 mines, closing a compliance gap that had lingered for years.

06

HOD, Coal Handling Plant (KCHP)

Manuguru Area

2 Years

Planned and completed the total mother plate and wear plate replacement of the pre-weigh wagon loading system surge hopper without hampering a single day of coal dispatches. Reduced under-loading and over-loading wagon charges to zero — a result so significant that these parameters were added to the SAP Wagon Loading Report for monitoring by the Marketing Department, Hyderabad. Also secured the Overall First Prize in the Annual Safety Week Inspections, all within just two years.

07

HOD, Coal Screening Plant (CSP)

Srirampur Area

2 Years

Successfully commenced the EOL agreement with Indian Railways by establishing separate accommodation and canteen facilities for railway employees, and completed the new pre-weigh wagon loading system for the new stream.

08

Group Engineer — Shanthikhani, Kasipet-1 & 2

Mandamarri Area · Underground Mines

1½ Years

Contributed significantly to bringing the Continuous Miner equipment and all its accessory equipment from underground at Shanthikhani Mine back to the surface — a complex, high-stakes retrieval operation.

09

In-Charge, Area Workshop

Bellampalli Area

2½ Years

Where the Certified Energy Auditor in him truly showed. Cut the Bellampalli Area's annual electrical power consumption by 35 lakh units by maintaining unity power factor and driving energy conservation — LED street lights, LED tube lights and energy-efficient ceiling fans replacing conventional ones. Also raised the safety bar in the colony quarters with separate earth pits for geysers and MCBs replaced with RCCBs.

10

Area Engineer (E&M) — The Last Innings

Bellampalli Area · on promotion as AGM (E&M)

1 Year

In his final year, reduced the total inventory across the Area Stores and all Pit Stores by ₹2.5 crore, and non-moving items inventory by a further ₹1.5 crore — finishing exactly as he began: leaving things in better shape than he found them.

The Impact You Don't See

50M+

SCCL coal powers 80% of Telangana's thermal electricity. His E&M systems kept the machines running that extracted this coal. Every light that stays on — people like him made it possible.

13,500
Days He Risked His Life

One undetected methane pocket + one electrical spark = catastrophe. 100+ miners lose life annually in India. Coming home safe every evening for 37 years was never a certainty.

Worth of Infrastructure Managed

Electrical substations, heavy earth movers, winding systems, draglines, conveyors — hundreds of crores of critical mining infrastructure under his command.

Farewell Address presented to

Sri Ganji Krishna Murthy

Additional General Manager (E&M)
Area Engineer (E&M), Bellampalli Area

Dear Sir,

We have assembled here to bid farewell on the occasion of your superannuation as Addl. GM (E&M) on 31.07.2026, after rendering meritorious and commendable service to the company.

Born on 27th July 1965 in Adoni Town, Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh, Sri G. Krishna Murthy inherited the values of hard work, integrity and perseverance from his parents, Late Ganji Achanna, cloth merchant, and Late Ganji Nagamma, homemaker. These values became the foundation of an extraordinary career marked by commitment and excellence in service.

After completing your SSC in 1979–80 and Intermediate in 1980–82 at Adoni Town, you graduated in B.E. Mechanical Engineering from Vasavi College of Engineering, Hyderabad, under Osmania University, in 1983–87. You qualified as a Certified Energy Manager as well as a Certified Energy Auditor in 2013 from the National Productivity Council, Hyderabad, under the seal of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India.

You joined the prestigious SCCL as JET (E&M) on 09.08.1989, with your initial posting at the Coal Chemical Complex (CCC), Srirampur Area — a chemical plant producing coke from coal, later closed and converted into Singareni Polytechnic — where you worked for 8 years in the Operations Department as Shift In-Charge. Thereafter you were transferred to RK-6 Mine, Ramakrishnapur Area, which was merged into Srirampur Area. At RK-6 Mine, you played a vital role in dewatering the entire drowned and developed 4 Seam and 5 Seam for depillaring purposes by drilling a number of inter-seam boreholes, during a tenure of 6 years.

Subsequently you were transferred to Area Workshop, Yellandu, where the Koyagudem OCP Coal Handling Plant installations were carried out during your tenure of 4 years. Thereafter you were transferred to KK-1 Mine, Mandamarri Area, Bellampalli Region. You are the key person in achieving KK-1 Mine's highest SDL production for three consecutive years throughout SCCL UG Mines, and also played a vital role in achieving First Prize for UG Face Machinery among SCCL UG Mines in the Annual Safety Week Inspections, during your tenure of 5 years.

Subsequently you were transferred to Bhupalpalli Area as Group Engineer for the highest number of SDLs (30 Nos.) among SCCL UG Mines groups, i.e. the KTK-1 Group of Mines, and obtained long-pending DGMS approvals for the total HT electrical apparatus in KTK-1 and KTK-2 Mines, working there for 5 years. Thereafter you were transferred to KCHP, Manuguru Area as HOD. At KCHP you successfully planned and completed the total mother plates and wear plates replacement work of the pre-weigh wagon loading system surge hopper without hampering coal dispatches, and you played a key instrumental role in reducing under-loading and over-loading wagon charges to zero — which led to these parameters being included in the SAP Wagon Loading Report for monitoring by the Marketing Department, Hyderabad — and also in achieving the Overall First Prize in the Annual Safety Week Inspections, during your tenure of just two years.

Thereafter you were transferred to Srirampur Area CSP as HOD, where you successfully commenced the EOL Agreement with Railways by establishing separate accommodation and canteen facilities for railway employees, and completed the new pre-weigh wagon loading system of the new stream during your tenure of two years. Later you were transferred to Shanthikhani Project UG Mine and Kasipet-1 & 2 UG Mines, Mandamarri Area as Group Engineer, where you contributed significantly in bringing the Continuous Miner equipment along with its accessory equipment from Shanthikhani Mine underground to the surface, in a tenure of one and a half years.

As a last innings you were posted as In-Charge, Area Workshop, Bellampalli Area, where you rendered your services for two and a half years and played a key role in the annual reduction of electrical power consumption of Bellampalli Area by 35 lakh units, by maintaining unity power factor and adopting energy conservation measures such as providing LED street lights, LED tube lights and energy-efficient ceiling fans in place of conventional ones, and safety enhancement measures such as the provision of separate earth pits for geysers and the replacement of MCBs with RCCBs in colony quarters.

Later, on promotion as AGM (E&M), you were posted to work as Area Engineer (E&M), Bellampalli Area for the last one-year period, where you contributed significantly in reducing the Area Stores and all Pit Stores total inventory by ₹2.5 crore and non-moving items inventory by ₹1.5 crore.

You have been a personification of success, and with all humility you have always acknowledged the role played by your beloved wife Smt. Ganji Mahalakshmi as the woman behind your success. The Almighty has blessed your couple with two well-educated and settled children.

Your son Ganji Abhilash completed his Bachelor of Engineering at MVSR College, Hyderabad, and a PG Programme in Data Science Engineering from Great Lakes Institute of Management, Hyderabad, and is at present working as a Senior Data Scientist at Amazon, Hyderabad. Your daughter-in-law Smt. Ganji Vinisha, M.Sc. (Statistics), works as a Consultant (Engineering) at Deloitte, Hyderabad.

Your daughter Smt. Chinthala Madhuri completed her B.E. (Civil) from KL University, Vijayawada, and works as AEE in RWSS, Mission Bhagiratha Department, Mancherial. She is married to Dr. Chinthala Vikas, BDS, PG Diploma (Implantology), practising as a dentist in Mancherial.

Your harmonious maintenance of rapport with all levels of management and workers has yielded a better work culture, and good discipline and punctuality.

As we bid you farewell, we extend our heartfelt wishes and pray for the Almighty's blessings upon you and your family. May you enjoy a healthy, peaceful and active retired life filled with happiness and contentment.

We honour you by presenting this scroll as a token of our love and affection, in appreciation of your valuable services to the company.
